Payload and Cargo Specs: Ram 3500 vs Chevy Silverado 3500

When it comes time to load up your bed with building materials or waste from the worksite, the Ram 3500 and Chevy Silverado 3500 have your back. They each have an impressive payload capacity, with specs running above 7,000 pounds, so go ahead and load up the heavy stuff:

They also both give you a choice of two box sizes, so you can really refine your truck for the kind of capability you need. Loading and unloading is easier, too, thanks to bed steps that give you a leg up into the cargo box and an available power-release tailgate. This saves you a little muscle by letting you simply press a button on the key fob to open the tailgate.

The Ram truck comes with an extra feature, however, that we think New York drivers like you will get a lot of use out of. We’re talking about the available RamBox® Cargo Management System. This places two lockable, drainable storage bins inside the walls of the bed, over the wheels.

The RamBox® Cargo Management System is ideal for carrying smaller items like tools. With the 115-volt power outlet, you’ll even be able to power up your tools on the worksite without having to fiddle with a generator or cumbersome extension cord.

The Chevy, unfortunately, doesn’t have a similar feature.

Now, how about trailering? With both the Ram 3500 and Chevy Silverado 3500, you’ll have the ability to tow over 35,000 pounds when you’re running on their available Diesel engines with outputs exceeding 900 lb-ft of torque.

Hitching up and keeping an eye on your trailer gets an upgrade, too. Both heavy-duty trucks have an available trailer-view system that allows you to use the infotainment touchscreen in the center stack to watch your trailer while you drive.

This also turns into a rearview camera when you’re in reverse, so that you can more easily align your hitch and trailer.

The Ram may have an advantage here, however, thanks to the available Auto-Level Rear Suspension. This includes Bed Lowering Mode, which brings the rear suspension to its lowest position for easier trailer hookup.

Without a similar feature, drivers in the Chevy Silverado 3500 may struggle a bit more when hitching up to tow.
